Spring Delights

Spring is turning to summer and my garden is in full bloom. I am so pleased with it this year. Some years the weather is volatile and the blooms are ruined, or it doesn't rain at all and things don't bloom. This year, in spite of the pandemic problems, my garden has produced one beauty after another.

Even the chives are beautiful now. We love them in scrambled eggs, or cottage cheese.

The colors of these irises really pop in the sunlight. The blue and white reminds me of Memorial Day, which I observed by watching some readings and prayers online, then we took this photo for a friend.

We joined in a Spread the Flag campaign hosted by a young woman friend who is hosting a drive to get photos of people and flags from every state. You can read more here. Please feel free to join in with your photo.

My peonies did not disappoint. I am amazed at their beauty as I ponder their ephemeral nature.

Thanks for visiting today. It's Friday, and every Friday a bunch of us get together to share poems. Join us! This Poetry Friday is hosted by Mary Lee Hahn at A Year of Reading. You'll find links in the comment section.

  1. Love the "green leaves flash", Karen and your beautiful blooms. It has been a gorgeous May here, too, but I am worried about the peonies - still tight buds that are not opening. Have a nice weekend!

    1. Thanks, Linda. I hope the peonies will bloom, maybe they just need time. It seems like mine were tiny buds just a week or so back.

  2. I'm with you. My garden is giving me so much joy and solace this year! Like Linda B., my peonies are keeping me waiting, but I think they're just timing it so when the iris are done they'll get the spotlight!

    1. I hope so, Mary Lee. I know that I look forward to peonies every year, and some years I'm luckier than others.

  3. Oh, I'm so envious of your beautiful flowers, Karen!! We can't have anything like that here because of the deer. Love your poem, too -- "green leaves flash/Silver petticoats" is exquisite. :)

    1. I am quite lucky about the deer situation. They are all around this area, but usually don't come into our area. Many of my friends have deer.

    1. Thanks, Amy. I actually started with the idea of the tree leaves doing a dance, and as I reworked it I came up with sashayed.

  5. Such a lovely lovely garden! I love that the breezes sashayed in!! Happy spring. We get a short one and gardens are tricky but doable. Flowers will be out back this summer as the street is getting a complete make-over: new sewer pips, water pipes, sidewalks, gutters and road. So....until Oct. it is a work zone out there.....and lots of dust and noise. But worth it. Janet F.

  6. Delightful! Your garden is a joy to visit...even virtually. I love those Iris and peonies. I've had so much fun writing in community. That breeze sashaying at dusk is some nice sass in this post. Viva spring!

  8. I love your garden. It is filled with beautiful vibrant colors. The peonies are beautiful. Mine are a luscious magenta color. Your pinks are so pale and full. It would be a wonderful combination with mine in a vase. "their ephemeral nature" says it all, Karen.
